Discipleship Groups

Sunday School and Discipleship

At Smithton Church of the Nazarene, we desire to help more people come to know Christ and believers to grow in Christ.  Towards that end, we offer a variety of discipleship opportunities for individuals of all ages. Our Sunday morning gathering includes age-graded, open Bible study groups for the entire family. On Thursday evenings we offer a Children’s Story Hour as well as Adult and Youth Bible Studies.

Jesus said in His Great Commission to His Church, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” [Matt. 28:19-20, NRSV]  The word disciple literally means “to become a learner or pupil.”  At its core, the Great Commission is a command to join Christ in His mission.  You are invited to consider being involved with us in your journey to become a Christ-like disciple and an on-mission Christian.

Women’s Ministries

What began as a Mother-Daughter Banquet in May 2005 has morphed into a series of regular women’s activities. Annual Mother-Daughter banquets, monthly Crafter’s Corner, semi-annual Craft-Around-the-Clock events and  Ladies' Bible Study.. Blankets for Project Linus … sewing classes for children and adults … bible studies and prayer … discovering a faith based way to healthy living. We encourage you to join us as we journey with Christ together.

Children’s Ministries

Children can laugh and play, learn and grow, and develop friendships as they discover God's great love for them.  Children are encouraged to be a part of our Sunday Gathering in various ways such as ushering, collecting the offering, reciting scripture, and occasionally participating in morning worship.  During Sunday mornings, we offer nursery care every Sunday for children ages 0-2. Children ages 3-5th grade have children's church every 2nd - 5th Sunday during the morning gathering.  Each Thursday evening (Winter, Spring, and Fall) from 6:30 - 7:30 is Children's Story Hour where we enjoy a Bible story, crafts, games, and snacks.  Special events where we love getting together for fun and fellowship include craft days,Family Game Nights, VBS, and our annual Back to School Bash. Several of kids enjoy Kidz Camp each summer.  We would love to have you be a part of our family!

1st and 3rd Wed each month Men's Group meets for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.  We encourage you to check it out.

Our men meet monthly for breakfast and then to work. They can be found doing maintenance around our facilities … at a widow or widower’s home helping with chores … delivering food … They have put in sewer lines, replaced frozen pipes, repaired cars and motorcycles, built handicap ramps and even worked on computers. We continue to discover that as we work discipleship happens. During a recent project one of our young men (husband and dad) said, “This is good. I am learning how to do things at our house.” Think of it as a practical, real way of living the gospel! You’re invited to join in as we laugh, work, and grow in faith.
